What better way to spend a birthday eve than with six very special ladies? I arrived at my friend Yoli’s house a little before 7:00, and they were all lounging in pajamas, having a specially concocted cocktail (by Gwen) called a Spicy Kelly.
I immediately changed into PJs as well — I would be staying the night — and joined them for an evening of great food, wine, laughter and celebration.
We had two types of fondue: Beef (cooked in onion soup) and cheese (of course).
After dinner there were gifts — all unique and fabulous. I love that my friends know me so well.
A cool evening, we enjoyed a nice fire in the pit out back. Afterwards we had a wonderful dessert — a German cheesecake, I believe — made by Sibylle.
There was supposed to be a meteor shower from midnight til 3:00 a.m., but around 12:15 – 12:30 we went outside to check it out but saw nothing but a bunch of clouds. It didn’t matter; the evening could not be any better just the way it was.
I feel incredibly blessed to have women friends. Thank you Yoli, Gwen, Janet, Cindy, Inez and Sibylle for a most memorable evening. Growing older is so very far from daunting and depressing when you have great friends to celebrate with.
Today is the official Birthday and I have treated myself to a free birthday sandwich from Jersey Mike’s (I am on their mailing list), a $15 rocking chair from a nearby yard sale (thanks, Cheryl!), and tonight Chuck and I will go out to a nice dinner.
It has been a long time since my birthday fell on a Saturday so it feels very strange to be able to celebrate on the actual day. Right now Chuck is napping (recharging for this evening) with a couple of the dogs, while Griffin and Trudy are hanging out with me here in the loft. The sky is a mixture of clouds and sun — 67 degrees outside.
I have had a gazillion Happy Birthday wishes from Facebook friends, numerous texts, and a few phone calls; and the day is far from over.
Who knows what “52” will bring? I am off to an awesome start!!
