Fridays can be somewhat enjoyable at my place of employment, at least toward the end of my shift. Jeremy, the afternoon jock on our alternative station, KBZT/FM 94.9, hosts a Rock-n-Roll Happy Hour, where he features craft beers from various breweries all around San Diego and other parts of Southern California. Jeremy plays music, talks about and drinks beer with his guests, all while hosting his radio show.
A brew master from Stone Brewing Company is always a staple during Jeremy’s show, which goes from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Friday. Stone is one of the largest and most popular breweries, but there are also numerous other breweries, and usually a brew master from each one will eventually make it into Jeremy’s studio and on his show.
This afternoon, as I was wrapping up in my traffic studio, a guy from Stone showed up with 6-8 different beers for tasting, plus some of the great food Stone has on its menu: mac-n-cheese (both veggie and one with sausage), tortilla chips, ceviche, soft pretzels, hummus, “quail knots” (very much like chicken wings, but tastier) and an assortment of gourmet cheeses.
Of course Kelly the Foodie creeps in for “just a taste,” and winds up hanging out for 15-20 minutes before they went on the air. I don’t do this every Friday, but on the cusp of St. Patrick’s weekend, plus having had a somewhat long day (including a busy afternoon reporting traffic on the air), partaking in some pre-Rock-n-Roll Happy Hour fun seemed like a great way to transition into the weekend.
After a pretzel, a small scoop of mac-n-cheese, a quail knot and a couple of chips with ceviche — and oh, yeah, half a glass of beer — I thanked them, said my goodbyes and went on my way.
On my way home I remembered that I had yet to write Day 14, so I am hoping that a little Slice of My Life will suffice.
I hope all of my “40-Days” friends have a safe and happy St. Pat’s weekend. Thanks for including me in this very talented, eclectic and supportive family.
“See” you on Day 15!
