Day 35 — Election Day — 40 Days of Writing, Fall Session 2014

I Voted

I voted today, but only under obligation. Annoyed by the constant mud-slinging in the media, plus the incessant phone calls on my land line, I was tempted to skip this election altogether. Most of the propositions have nothing to do with me, and I really don’t give a crap about most of the candidates.

Frankly, I don’t know what to believe anymore; I have become quite jaded. The times a vote has gone in my favor, it seems to get overturned. What’s the point in voting? With the exception of not being able to have cocktails at the beach, pot still not 100% legal and the whole gay marriage thing still not in full swing (none of these were on the ballot), I am pretty content with the way things are.

But I voted for a handful of things, including our next governor, attorney general, and a couple others, all Democrats.

I am looking forward to not having to look at anymore political signage, hear anymore TV and radio ads, and most of all, not receiving anymore stupid-ass recorded messages on my phone.

Good luck to all candidates and proposition advocates. Now leave me alone.
