We have a housekeeper coming tomorrow morning around 8:00; a new housekeeper, one I got from a flyer she had left tucked in our front gate. So, like most any other person expecting housekeeper, I spent today cleaning. Chuck and I basically uncluttered the house of laundry, Christmas decor (that hadn’t found an official spot yet), dishes, anything else that a housekeeper would have to second guess and work around in order to do what we hired her to do: deep clean.
Deciding to leave the guest room off-limits, that’s where we stashed most objects that we were unsure of placement for. We also used the dining room table as a sort of catch-all, so we’ll have to instruct the housekeeper (and her sister, who will be accompanying her) to please clean around things, but don’t worry about the stacks of things on such things.
(Exhausting just thinking about it, right?)
Around 5:00 p.m. Chuck and I decided to call it a day and get out for some much-needed Christmas shopping and dinner after that. It was a most enjoyable evening; we accomplished a lot, then wound up at a new place called Bull and Grain on our shopping route. Known for cool craft cocktails and interesting plates, this place had caught Chuck’s eye a while back, so it was an easy choice.
We settled into the dimly lit bar-restaurant and ordered (after the assistance of the flashlight app on my phone). Chuck had a bacon-infused Old-Fashioned and I opted for some sort of Tequila Cosmopolitan. Our appetizers ‚ the first round anyway — consisted of ceviche and a charred octopus. Craving carbs after that, we ordered the house mac-n-cheese with Wisconsin cheddar and some fries. Chuck had another Old-Fashioned, while I opted for a Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay.
8:15 rolled around and we both decided home was our next destination, but not before stopping in at Babycakes for Chuck to pick up some gourmet cupcakes (he had a 2-4-1 coupon), so I parked while he jumped out. 10 minutes later he climbed into the car with 4 cupcakes (he had 2 coupons), then off to home.
An enjoyable evening, and it’s not over yet. Chuck has shows to catch up on, and I have Christmas issues of Better Homes & Gardens, Food Network Magazine and Bon Appetit in which to round out my night.
It’s doubtful I will make it through the stack; I need to turn in at a decent hour, as cleaning ladies are coming tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
